Kidney 1 acupoint

Acupoint: Kidney 1 (KD1)

Chinese Name: Yong Quan

English Name: Gushing Spring

Element: Wood Location: Kidney 1 is located in the forefoot (approximately 1/3 the distance from the webs of the toes to the heel) in the depression between the 2nd and 3rd metatarsal bones.

Biologically, the kidneys play a vital role in removing toxins, maintaining bodily fluids and regulating electrolyte balance. They are central to growth, development, reproduction and fertility.

According to Chinese medicine, the kidneys store the vital essence (jing) and sexual vitality of the individual. They are considered the source of yin and yang for all the other organs, so a disruption in the kidneys could have a negative effect throughout the entire body.

KD1 is a Jing-well point, where Qi enters the Kidney meridian and moves toward the trunk of the body. These points generally clear heat and stagnation from the opposite end of the channel.

Kidney 1 is known to have both reviving and calming benefits:

Clears excess from the head

Calms the spirit and mind

Clears the brain

Revives consciousness

Whether you are using IceWave or Energy Enhancer, stimulating this point once a week will have beneficial and lasting effects. Although the effects may take longer to notice, chronic stimulation of this point will inevitably strengthen the body!

Editor's Note:
Acupuncturists have traditionally used Kidney 1 for treatment of the following conditions: low back pain, hypertension, seizures/convulsions, headaches, sore throat and throat constriction, dizziness, dry tongue, blurred vision, anxiety, nausea and vomiting, loss of consciousness, infertility, hot flashes, night sweats, poor memory, and visual disturbances.
